I was looking at the company Credit Relief Today. They are offering negotiation services for my debt, and they say they can reduce it by up to 50%. They charge 10% of the original amount someone owes and your FICO could dive quite significantly. Although is you owe more than o 30% of your balances, your fico will already be dropping down. Does anyone have any experience with these programs and whether they really work?

I know understand that the government has made Credit Card debt relief part of their stimulus package. However, I can’t get past all the ads on the search engines from companies that just seem to want even more money from me! I am just trying to get some good independent information on whether this is going to be right for me, or not.

Charles P Kindelberger mentions in Manias, Panics and Crashes that large-scale conversions of public debt occurred in 1822, 1824, and 1888. He also says interest rate declines were associated with the public debt conversion. Which countries have converted public debt and what did the creditors get in return? Is it correct to assume the debtor’s currency is devalued and the government nationalizes private property to do so?

Most of my debt consists of medical bill leftovers (the amount after insurance) that has gone to collection. I have not seen anything that deals with those types of bad credit. They say medical is not supposed to affect your credit but it does.
